Some of the items we sell may not be familiar to you or available from other beekeeping supply sources. This page has downloadable documents that explains what these items are and how they can be used. If you still have any questions, feel free to give Doug or Keith a call or send us an e-mail.
Candy Board (10F, 8F & 5F Nuc)A Candy Board is used during the winter as "cheap insurance" that your bees will always have a source of food available if they use up the winter stores in their frames. The sugar blocks or fondant absorb moisture to help keep the hive dry during the winter months.

Quilt Box (10F, 8F & 5F Nuc)A Quilt Box can be used all year in place of an inner cover. During the summer the hive will stay ventilated and you can feed quart jars through the bottom screens without having to open the hives or fear of robbing. During the winter, it can be insulated using Quilt Pillows to keep moisture out of the hive.

Bait Hive (Swarm Trap) |
The Bait Hive, or swarm trap as it is sometimes called, is used for "catching" swarms. The size and shape is based on Dr. Tom Seeley's research that he published in the book "Honeybee Democracy". Download the document below to learn how to successfully utilize your Bait Hive to "catch" a feral swarm from out in the wood, or even catch a swarm from one of your own hives if you happen to be away when it happens. If you catch just one swarm, you have more than paid for the cost of the Bait Hive, and it can be used for years to come.
