Basic Beginner Beekeeper Setups
As a beginner beekeeper, you are full of excitement, anxious for the season to begin so you can start working your bees and be called a "beekeeper" by your family and friends. However, as you start thinking about all the equipment you will need, your excitement can turn to apprehension, not knowing exactly what equipment you really need. Looking at the thick beekeeping catalogs, a new beekeeper could spend way more money than they need to get started, buying all sorts of unnecessary equipment.
To help you sort through the smoke, Honey and the Hive has put together some lists of the basic equipment you will need to start keeping bees. We added in a few options and upgrades, but labeled them accordingly, so you can know what you need versus what you might want.
There are four lists; one for those using 10-frame Deep equipment, one for 10-frame Medium equipment, one for 8-frame Deep equipment, and one for 8-frame Medium equipment. Depending on which format you chose, the list will spell out exactly what you need to get started. You can always add on extra equipment and supplies as you progress by looking at our Online Catalog.
